Artist Statement

Steve Borghi was born in Massachusetts. A self-taught artist and musician, he works primarily in oil on canvas or linen. He paints abstract or as he prefers to call it "the new expressionism." He also paints landscapes and islandscapes that have a touch of surrealism.

His approach to painting blends his love of both art and music. When he steps up to a canvas to paint, he hears music, rhythms, and beats which he translates into brush strokes. Sometimes the strokes are percussive and pulsating and other times they sweep across the canvas like the strings of a harp. His paintings are bold, bright and intense with color.

Borghi's intention is to evoke strong feelings from his viewers. The fusion of colors creates a strong sense of energy that is exciting and fresh. He is known for his brush work using thick paint to create unique textures. His work has been described as "energetic," "mesmerizing," "intense," "provocative," and "vibrant." A fellow musician said that Borghi's work was "just as colorful and lively" as his drumming.

His oil paintings are on permanent display at Lafayette Cancer Care and Unity Medical Center in Lafayette, Indiana.
